Working with Youth
Terica Print

Terica is an online peer educator with MySistahs.

My name is Terica and I am 23 years old. I graduated from Southern University of Baton Rouge, La. I am currently a first year graduate student majoring is Social Work.

"I will change the world" that is a quote that I keep dear to my heart. As a social worker that is the quote that continues to motivate me in such a challenging career. It can be seen to some as a naive statement. However I feel that it is simply a goal that if everyone adopted the world would be a better place.

I am from Fresno, Ca and yes it is as bad as Tonie from the television show "Girlfriends" claims it is!! So as soon as I graduated from high school I took a huge blind leap of faith across the country and landed in Louisiana and I have never regretted my choice.

During the spring of 2007 I was an HIV/AIDS peer educator for my University along with 12 other young women. I presented information about contraceptives and condoms, talked about issues confronting our campus, and provided locations for counseling and STI testing. We also held an HIV/AIDS conference and the turn out and support from our university was incredible! I want to continue this type of service in the community and internationally.

My ultimate goal is to travel abroad periodically lending my services to mentally and physically disabled communities. I partly agree that people and children are a product of their environment. However, I wholeheartedly believe that each individual determines his or her final destination. Too often in our life’s we allow our stepping stones to become our stumbling blocks...and we loose sight of our own goals, aspirations, and dreams in the process. I choose to aim high, for success and gain every joyous aspect of life that I deserve. You are welcome to come along with me and enjoy the ride of determination to the destination...SUCCESS!!!!
